A G.E.M. of a Donor: Ken Gunn, Jr.
“When I began my tenure as a board member in 1999, Virginia, along with the rest of the United States, had an unacceptable level of the population that was uninsured and underserved with regard to health care needs. Health Brigade, then Fan Free Clinic, provided a medical home for the underserved population. I felt that I needed to do what I could in order to better the situation for this portion of our population,” says Ken Gunn, Jr.
In deference to the philosophy ‘If not you, who?’, Ken says he was honored and very privileged to become a board member in 1999 and to serve on the board until 2016. “Throughout my tenure on the board, I found that Health Brigade’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion was always a driving force both in board member selection and to those we serve. As a member of the Finance Committee, I continue to volunteer my time, efforts and monetary contributions and plan to continue to do so.
“I currently serve as the Comptroller of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and hold a Master’s degree in Public Administration. “My interests include carpentry, macroeconomics, psychology, sociology, American history, world history, archaeology and intercollegiate athletics.”
